Go Ahead, Make My Day

“But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6: 3-4

One of the things I have been trying to incorporate is doing something nice every day for someone else. Who are the people that are in your social circles? Mine are my husband, my son, my co-workers, my extended family members, and my friends. Every day I have an opportunity to be the light in someone’s day. Here are a few classic, unusual, and fun ways you can brighten someone’s day.

Babysit

Sometimes, all I wish I had was someone to watch my baby so that I could go out with my husband. I know that would be a much-appreciated gift for a couple with young kids, especially those with no family nearby. You can watch someone’s baby when they need to run a critical errand or get some sleep if they are an expecting mother. Babysitters are expensive, and most mothers wouldn’t trust a stranger to watch their child at home. I am one of those mothers ✋.

Clean

My cleaning products from Blueland, I’m not sponsored, but they can if they want to 😉

You can clean out someone’s car for them, wash their car, offer to clean someone’s home for them (especially if they’re elderly or physically disabled). Like the previous one, hiring a cleaning person is expensive.  They can run anywhere around 50-200 dollars, depending on the size of the mess and the size of the home.

Cook

The meal I made from the recipe I got from Greenchef, I’m not sponsored, but they can if they want to 😉

This one is a biggy. You can make food and bring it to your neighbor, or make dinner and invite them over to your home. You can start a meal train for someone who has just given birth or someone who is in mourning for the death of a loved one. You can purchase food for someone if you’re not a good cook. Give out gift cards to homeless people. Or bless the person behind you at the Starbucks line by paying their tab. Chick-fil-a has this cool feature where you can send someone food vouchers using your reward points. That’s one of the reasons why I love them; they are always giving back to the community. Sometimes I randomly get freebies from them, such as free delivery or a cookie with my order.

A Shoulder to Lean On

Sometimes, someone wants someone to talk to and listen to them. You can give your loved ones your time and patience. Listen to them, and only give out advice if they ask for some. Go over to their house if they’re not able to come to you. Reach out to people, and see how they are doing. We were never meant to do this life alone.

My bestie, who lets me lean on her shoulder, literally lol.

Money

If you lack time to give or talent to share, maybe using your money to make someone’s day is your way of doing something nice for someone. Donate money to missionaries and different credible charities such as Samaritan’s Purse. Tithe at church, giving your first 10% back to God’s work. Another way to quickly make someone’s day is to send them money on Venmo or Zelle for their birthday. Especially if your friend lives a long distance from you, you can always send money so that they can purchase themselves flowers and candy.

Laughter

You have already heard this many times before; laughter is the best medicine. If you have a funny bone, then make someone’s day by making them laugh. Do you know how much negativity is out there? Of course, you do. Even sharing a funny video with someone can make their day. Create a birthday flash mob for someone. Pull a prank on someone you love; yes, this will brighten someone’s day, don’t be a bully, though (obvi). A good joke doesn’t hurt anyone physically or emotionally.

Physical Touch

I know we are living in a post-Covid era, but physical touch is still one way you can make someone’s day. Show affection to those closest to you, like your husband, lol (or wife, if you’re a man reading this 👋). Bump elbows with strangers, fist bump, or if worse comes to worst, a smile can go miles to make someone’s day.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

Ultimately you never know what people are going through and how much your kindness can get them through another day. I hope you enjoyed this post. Please consider liking this post if you did.
